Every person is born on purpose with a purpose. We all have gifts, talents and the ability to make an impact in this world and on others. Unfortunately, the majority of people never experience the fulfillment of knowing their life’s purpose. Or of experiencing the passion and joy that accompanies the momentum of purpose. The combination of your passion and purpose leads to a wonderful and prosperous life. And guides you to create a life of legacy.
For some, like myself, this journey to purpose can be long and painful. Full of mistakes, frustrations and failures yet because you operate out of your passions, you are amazingly resilient and consistently find happiness and satisfaction. But never quite experience the lasting fulfillment of purpose. Be not dismayed my friend you are part of the fortunate few. By operating out of your gifts, you are on a path that frequently intersects with purpose.
How do I know? Because my life’s journey has been a pendulum that swung between happiness and focus determination while alternating with doubt and confused apathy. After my incarceration at 20 years old, I was so determined not return. So, I humbled myself and took whatever work I could find and delivered my best. It wasn’t long before my determination render the response, “How did you know to do that?” Which was followed by opportunities and accolades. Yet it was my overarching desire was to conform to societal norms as the insurance that I would never again be a visitor of the California Penal System again. My vision was obstructed by my desire to fit in.
An avid reader, I found books such as “7 Habits of Highly Effective People®” and “Think and Grow Rich” that changed my life and have guided me all these years. And still I stumbled. I sailed through careers in Pharmaceutical Sales, Medical Devices, Benchtop Instruments and Biotechnology Consumables. Never understanding why my amazing gifts and talents where not quite enough to sustain desire and maintain momentum. It was only when I yielded to my higher calling, did the veil of uncertainty lift.
When I said yes to becoming my sister’s caregiver and leaving a 6-Figure Corporate Sales Position, did I finally discover my purpose. My yes to my sister Daphne was my gift of love, which was met with God’s gift of life. October 2013, SIX days after giving notice, ONE introduction and my FIRST networking meeting, delivered a new knowledge. I’d been chasing stuff and status. And by setting goals that far exceeded my capabilities and assured achievement, I was ensured to be driven and focused for lengthy periods of times. What I had missed, and what most people miss, is the lasting passion, joy and fulfillment of purpose.
This new knowledge had rocked me to the core of my being and has changed my world forever. It was immediately after in November 2013 that I discovered vision boards. Yowzah was I excited! This was an evolution of goal setting that incorporated visual motivation. I invited 16 ladies from church to join me at my apartment’s recreation room for Saturday afternoon vision boarding. I cooked up some good eats, put a call out for magazines and scissors and stepped into my purpose. And from that day forth all my gifts, talents and knowing have found meaning.
My mission, is to help as many as possible to experience joy and excitement for their lives. I do this through the VISION Development Process where my clients create A CLEARLY DEFINED PURPOSE.
